What is London Ocean Group
We are London-based academic researchers with an interest in the ocean. We come from a very wide range of London universities and institutions, and we include physical and biological researchers, social scientists, and those who study risk, policy and law.
The group is currently coordinated by Dr Helen Czerski of UCL. We welcome members from any area of ocean study who either live or work in London, and who would like to connect with others in these fields. Currently we have about 150 members, and we are still growing.
We provide a forum for researchers to get to know each other and to explore new interdisciplinary research topics. We have members across London’s institutions including but not limited to: University College London, Imperial, Kings College London, Queen Mary University of London, Natural History Museum and the London School of Economics.
We hold meetings every 6-8 weeks, a large annual workshop each summer, and a range of other training and engagement activities.
As well as our academic meetings, we have upcoming workshops and smaller events aimed at bridging the gaps between disciplines. If you have suggestions for future meetings, please do let us know. Our events include seminars, films, outreach events, policy discussions and more.

Where are the London Ocean Group’s events held?
Most meetings will probably be near Euston or near South Kensington, since those are the locations of many of the group members. Researchers from further afield are very welcome to come along when visiting London – do introduce yourself when you arrive! After each meeting, we usually go to the pub, so there will be plenty of time to chat to everyone else.
